NASA Mars 2020 rover “Perseverance” Here’s what you need to know!

Are we alone? Is there a life beyond earth?

NASA is going to the next level to answer these questions.

NASA designed a robotic armed rover named Perseverance. Weighing about 1025 kg. This rover will land at Jezero crater on Mars and look for a sign of past life in a region of the Red planet. NASA wanted a rocky place to land because the rocks can tell the great story of around 3.5 billion years. Where the ancient environment was favorable for microbial life. This rover is identical to Curiosity but has some enhanced technology of landing, ability to prepare the soil and rock sample for return to earth will be capturing the sound with microphones.

This rover will be fully powered by a Nuclear power source with no more dependency on solar panels. Landing on rocks is somewhat challenging but NASA isn’t doing it for the first time.

Mars is the first choice for finding the life on exoplanets. Because the research says the most habitable planet in our solar system is mars after earth. Mars is reddish in appearance because of iron rust. Rusting is an oxidation reaction it happens if iron reacts with water this gives a clear sign that life has existed on this planet may be billions of years ago.

Mars reddish looks make it visible to the naked eyes and distinctive from other astronomical bodies.

What’s new in this Mars mission?

1)  Sample of soil will return to earth in next mars mission.

Along with the advanced landing, navigation, stereotypes camera which will give a 3D look, Perseverance is going to have a robotic arm that can drill up to 10-15 cm and will collect 31 soil samples of mars collected from different locations. These samples will be stored in a tube-like container.

Perseverance will drop this sample on parking location for future rover can pick it up for a return to Earth. Because the kind of observation and experiments of soil we can make in the laboratory is enormous and diverse.

2)  Mars Helicopter Ingenuity

Mars first Helicopter. A robotic helicopter weighing about 1.8 kg will deploy itself from perseverance after 2.5 months of landing. This is planned to find the best driving routes on mars to help future mars mission. The name ingenuity was named by an Indian origin girl Vaneeza Rupani.

Communication is going to be one of the challenging factors. Although communication will be going at the speed of light still it will take 5-25 min for receiving or sending each signal.  Because mars and earth continuously changing their orbits so the communication time will be depended on the respective orbits of both planets.
