ADITYA-L1 first Indian solar mission. Here's what you need to know!
India’s
first enthusiastic solar mission.
The main aspiration of this mission is
to conduct an investigation of the jigsaw puzzle of coronal heating. Corona is the
outermost layer of the sun. Its temperature is more than ~1million degrees Celsius;
ironically sun surface temperature is ~5,500degree Celsius.
Its outermost layer is much hotter
than its surface. A Cryptic phenomenon has not been resolved. After this
mission, we may come to know the cause behind this phenomenon.
Other objectives are development,
dynamics and origin of coronal mass ejections (CMEs), origin and composition of
space weather (solar wind), observation of in-situ particle and plasma environment
providing data for a study of particle dynamics from the sun.
Where Aditya- L1 will be placed?
Aditya L1 will be placed in an orbit
L1 (Lagrangian point 1).roughly 1.5 million km from earth. it would take around 109 earth days to reach orbit. There are 5
Lagrangian points between Sun and earth. Lagrangian points are those locations where
a small body can orbit in a constant pattern with two large masses. A space
spacecraft can be placed in that orbit to reduce fuel consumption needed to
remain in position. The main advantage of this location is the continuous uninterrupted
observation of the Sun.
What's New in this solar mission?
Magnetic
field topology. And magnetic field
measurement.
Not
planed by any mission so far not even by the NASA's Parker solar probe last
mankind solar mission.
What Aditya-L1 will carry?
Aditya-L1 will carry 7 payloads.
Four payloads will continuously observe
the sun, and remaining will be used for in-situ measurement.

1.
VELC: -
Visible emission line coronagraph to study the solar corona.
2. SUIT: - Solar ultraviolet imaging telescope to study lower and middle solar atmosphere.
3. SoLEXS: - Solar low energy X-ray Spectrometer.
4.
HEL1OS:- High
energy L1 orbiting X-ray spectrometer.
Both will study the broadband spectrum of X-ray flares and dynamic events in the solar corona.
6. PAPA: - plasma
Analyzer package for Aditya. Both will provide an in-situ measurement of solar
energetic particle and their energy distribution
7.
A Magnetometer:
- on the deployable boom will provide a measure of the local interplanetary,
magnetic field.
This mission is scheduled to launch in 2020 month and the date still not announced. There are so many solar mission has been planned none of them contained Magnetic field topology of the corona. This is what makes this solar mission fascinating among all missions. by executing this mission ISRO will add another golden feather in its crown.
